Information on Company EV Car Charging

It continues to be a busy time in the office.  When I first started working in accountancy back in 1998, February was always a quiet month.  The January tax return deadline had passed and many companies were not ready to complete their year end accounts.  It was a time for rest, reflection and admin!

Fast forward to 2024 and times have changed.  Change isn’t a bad thing, but for some it can take a while to get used to it.  Cloud software and regular management information that companies now need to stay ahead of the game means that year end accounts preparation can almost begin immediately, so for those December year ends we are already booking in work.

It’s not just the workflow and the new technology that have changed, we also find ourselves working with a new generation, with new attitudes and expectations.  Attracting, engaging and retaining a multigenerational workforce can take some thinking about.

We find ourselves prioritising collaboration and communication, implementing strategies for work-life balances and empathising with mental health needs.

All business, large or small, need to constantly evolve and we are here to support you however you need it. You only need to ask.

Men’s Walk to Support for Dorothy House

On Saturday 9th March, George Hartnell will be taking part in the Men’s Walk to Support for Dorothy House.

Lots of you will know George, as he prepares your year end accounts, management accounts, supports your book keeping team and provides valuable Xero training for many of our clients.  He is always a friendly face in our office and can often be found humming (yes humming) away to the radio as he works.

In March he will be  walking (and possibly humming) 8 miles from Dorothy House in Winsley to Bath Pavilion  in memory of his sister, Sophie who sadly passed away from breast cancer in 2019.

“Dorothy House were amazing and took care of her in the last week of her life. They have provided amazing after care for my niece and nephew to help them come to terms with the loss of their mum and it’s something I will always be forever grateful for.”

Dorothy House has a special place for all of us at Clear Vision, as they also supported our colleague, James Shadwell and his family, so if anyone would like to join us supporting George, below is a link to his fundraising page.

Undeclared dividend income

Do you have undeclared dividend income?

If you are a shareholder, you may receive a letter suggesting you may have undeclared dividend income.  Is this something to worry about?

HMRC often uses external resources to help flag potential underpayment of taxes.  Unfortunately, this “wide net” approach means that many individuals may receive letters which could be misinterpreted as an accusation of tax avoidance.

If you receive a letter, try not to worry and contact us as soon as you can.

We will check that everything is in order for you and ensure you know how to advise HMRC that you have declared all your dividends

6 April 2024 – Flexible Working

Be aware of a significant change in the expansion of flexible working rights.  Flexible working arrangements include remote working as well as altered working hours. The main changes include:

  • Employees can make a request twice every 12 months (rather than once)
  • Employers must respond within two months (rather than three)
  • Requesting flexible working is a day one right (no longer requiring 26 weeks service)
  • Employees no longer need to explain how the impact on the business could be mitigated
  • Employers must consult and meet with the employee if they are considering refusing a request.

Don’t forget to review and update your Employee Handbook / documentation about flexible working and to train line managers on this updated legislation.
