The Government has provided the following further clarification points with regards to the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS) today. The main points you should note are:

  • It’s OK to switch employees from sick pay to furlough and vice versa
  • You can furlough shielding employees and they don’t have to be placed on sick pay
  • Employees with certain work visas won’t be regarded as breaching their visa conditions if they receive funds under the furlough scheme
  • The reclaimable NI and pension elements are on the furlough salary, not the normal salary
  • Employees on furlough cannot work for any organisations that are linked to the business (in addition to not working for the business itself)

The CJRS claim portal will go live later this month. The information to have to hand in order to make a claim is:

  1. The bank account number and sort code you’d like us to use when we pay your claim
  2. The name and phone number of the person in your business for us to call with any questions
  3. Your Self-Assessment UTR (Unique Tax Reference), Company UTR or CRN (Company Registration Number)
  4. The name, employee number and National Insurance number for each of your furloughed employees
  5. The total amount being claimed for all employees and the total furlough period
